Storytelling

At the Deaf Studies 2012 Conference Ben Jarashow did a performance that was Outstanding. Ben uses his entire body in bringing to life whatever topic he is focusing on and he is hilarious with his presentation. He keeps the audience laughing and wanting more. His presentation keeps one on an emotional edge waiting for the next punch to hit our funny bone. Ben’s presentation is good for all audiences. He is a rare actor that is able to intertwine humor in a way that keeps the audience attention.

Ben is perhaps the most entertaining storyteller I’ve ever seen. He is a ASL storyteller in the truest and finest form: one who can present stories about the most mundane subjects and present tellings that capture the senses and the imagination. Ben’s stories take full advantage of the 3-dimensional space that is the stuff of signing. Add to that his incredible use of an astounding range of range of facial expressions and gestures and you get stories inhabited by a man who appears as much cartoon as human..

The Cycle of Ideology: The Image of Deaf People in Hollywood
[column split=”3″]
Here at the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind, Ben has skillfully mesmerized our students with his uncanny ability to de-stigmatize the common perceptions of Hollywood on Deaf people and their culture. Because of his empowering experience, our students can walk confidently into the future knowing how others may see them and how they may change their perceptions in a very positive way!

Unity for Gallaudet: The Second Social Movement at Gallaudet University
I highly recommend Ben Jarashow’s presentation on Unity of Gallaudet. I have seen him present on this subject twice in very different settings. Each time I gained insights into a very complex and highly significant struggle. Ben’s presentation skills are top notch and as a deeply-engrained member of the Gallaudet community, he was an eyewitness to the events. The understanding of the historical events that Ben presents comes only from thoughtful analysis of the complicated issues. But Ben’s true genius is his ability to tailor his presentation to his audience. As a master storyteller, Ben grabs his audience’s attention in an engaging exploration of one of the most significant events in recent Deaf history, and he does it at a level that builds on their existing knowledge base. Everyone interested in Deaf Studies should see this presentation.

Audism & Linguicism
Ben Jarashow gave us a presentation about “Audism and Linguicism” at our summer conference. He presented his topic and himself well. He was incredibly knowledgeable about today’s -Isms and he used several real-world applications. All of our members have enjoyed and benefited greatly from his workshop, excellent job!
